Salasya: Sifuna’s removal a win for Kenyans
By Faith Lagat, February 11, 2026Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has welcomed the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, terming it a political liberation for the senator and a victory for Kenyans.
In a post on X on Tuesday, 11, 2026, Salasya congratulated Sifuna, saying he had salvaged himself politically and was now free. He added that this development opened the way for them to work together in fighting for Kenyans.
Salasya described the removal of Sifuna as a win for Kenyans in general. He announced that he would now camp in Nairobi to actively support Sifuna’s political efforts in his bid.
“Congratulations to Edwin W. Sifuna, now you have salvaged yourself politically, you are now free. We can now fight for Kenyans together,” Salasya stated.
“Removal of Sifuna is a win for Kenyans in general. I will now camp in Nairobi to campaign for you, am now ready to join the movement. ODM can now enjoy broad-based hadi Wakufie uko.”

Acting Secretary General appointed
The congratulatory message came hours after the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to relieve Sifuna of his duties during a meeting held in Mombasa on Tuesday.
“Party National Executive Committee meeting in Mombasa today has resolved to relieve SG @edwinsifuna of his responsibilities with immediate effect,” the party stated.
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, one of the Deputy Secretary Generals, was appointed to serve in an acting capacity until a substantive Secretary General is elected.
“Effectively, Hon. Catherine Omanyo, who is one of the Deputy Secretary Generals, will act in this position until a substantive holder of the office is elected,” the party added.
Political realignments ahead of 2027 polls
The decision follows months of reported internal tensions within ODM, with discussions reportedly centred on matters relating to conduct.
Sifuna, a staunch defender of party leader Raila Odinga, had faced mounting criticism over the party’s evolving relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government.
The shake-up comes at a time when opposition alignments are shifting ahead of the 2027 General Election. Salasya’s public offer to support Sifuna outside the ODM structure has fuelled speculation about potential new political formations.
