Salasya gives conditions to join Sifuna’s team

By , February 21, 2026

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has given terms and conditions for him to join the embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna’s team.

Taking to his official X account on the night of Saturday, February 21, 2026, Salasya appeared to target Sifuna and his allies, accusing them of inconsistency and lacking resilience in the face of political pressure.

He stated that he would only join the team if they met certain conditions.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) lawmaker declared that he will only align with Sifuna’s camp if they formally withdraw from the ODM party and join what he termed “the rest of Kenyans who want change”.

He further positioned himself as a leader who has endured state pressure, referencing his dramatic arrest by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Moreover, Salasya contrasted that experience with what he described as hesitation among some opposition figures after facing police teargas during recent political gatherings.

“We used to have a total of 10 meetings a day for 3 months consecutively until I was arrested by 8 DCI armed with AK-47s from DCI headquarters. Them, only 4 meetings in 1 month, scared by teargas canister, and are calling for a sabbatical leave of one month, jokers. I will only support them if they withdraw from ODM and join the rest of Kenyans who want change,” Salasya stated.

Sifuna teargassed

Salasya’s remarks came hours after Sifuna was teargassed, just moments after he reached the podium to deliver his speech at the Linda Ground in Kakamega County.

Speaking on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Sifuna called out President William Ruto for spearheading the throwing of teargas at the residents.

At the time, Sifuna maintained that the meeting would not end despite the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The teargas, however, did not stop Sifuna’s speech as the Kakamega residents braced the teargas smoke while listening to the embattled Orange Democratic Movement leader.

Sifuna ODM ouster

Salasya has previously described the political drama surrounding the ouster of Sifuna as ODM Secretary General as a calculated strategy designed to mislead Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Salasya said Sifuna’s so-called fight outside ODM, while publicly claiming loyalty to the party, is a tactic aimed at creating a false sense of opposition for those dissatisfied with President William Ruto’s administration.

“Kenyans, this is all part of a bigger plan to trap you in confusion ahead of 2027. Sifuna’s “fight” outside ODM while claiming loyalty is a tactic to lure those rejecting Ruto’s regime into a false sense of opposition,” Salasya stated.
