Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has distanced himself from the emerging political factions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview with a local station on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Salasya maintained that he is committed to addressing the needs of Kenyans.

Salasya said he has not aligned himself with any group, including the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ and ‘Linda Ground’ camps, insisting that his priority remains serving wananchi rather than engaging in early political alignments.

“At the moment, I stand with the people of Kenya, and my focus remains on addressing their concerns. I am particularly committed to issues affecting Mumias, while also speaking to broader national challenges,” Salasya said.

Focus on developments

The MP stressed that while political realignments are beginning to take shape ahead of 2027, his focus is firmly on development and governance issues affecting ordinary citizens.

He singled out challenges facing Mumias, reiterating his commitment to pushing for solutions in the area, which he said has long grappled with economic and infrastructural setbacks.

Salasya said that he will reveal the faction he will be when the time is right.

“My focus right now is on Mumias and talking on the general issues. But when the time comes, I will be where my heart looks because this country needs to be fixed,” Salasya said.

“I’m also trying to observe and see where we are going right now, where we are going as a nation. With the seriousness of the united opposition, where are they going? We will join at the right time when it comes.”

Salasya on ODM

The lawmaker further criticised the Orange Democratic (ODM) party, accusing it of drifting from its founding reformist principles.

Salasya noted the shift signals what he said is the beginning of the party’s decline.

“ODM has at present strayed from the principles upon which it was founded,” Salasya said.

“The challenges Kenyans are currently facing can be attributed to the actions of ODM. At one moment, the party positions itself in the opposition, and at another, it seeks to align with the government. As a result, those of us tasked with providing oversight have been removed from committees. This demonstrates that the party has lost its focus.”
