Salasya claims lawyer-dominated Linda Mwananchi cannot deliver change

By , June 16, 2026

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has criticised the Linda Mwananchi movement, arguing that it is dominated by senior lawyers and cannot deliver the political change Kenyans seek ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In an X post dated Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Salasya fully threw his weight behind the United Alternative Government, which wound up their Western region tour on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with a series of rallies.

“Linda Mwananchi is a group of only senior lawyers that has got even the LSK president. Please, they qualify to be Linda Mwananchi activists because they know the law. But Kenya is being delivered by the United Alternative Government team of us. Western ilitii,” Salasya wrote.

His remarks came as several leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi attended former Chief Justice David Maraga’s “State of the Nation: The Way Forward Dialogue” at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.

United Alternative Government courts Western Kenya

This comes amid leaders allied to the United Alternative Government concluded the Komboa Kenya Karavan tour across Western Kenya.

The coalition, which includes Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi and George Natembeya, held rallies in several towns across the region.

Speaking during the tour, Kalonzo said residents had expressed support for political change, citing concerns over the cost of living and governance issues.

Gachagua reiterated calls for a change in leadership at the next general election as the coalition continued promoting its political agenda.

Linda Mwananchi leaders back reform agenda

The forum brought together politicians, civil society representatives, youth leaders and governance actors to discuss national issues ahead of the 2027 elections.

Among those present were Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Suba South MP and Linda Mwananchi spokesperson Caroli Omondi, and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo.

Amisi backed a possible political partnership involving Maraga and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, stating: “If Sifuna is not a presidential candidate, then the only person I will allow him to deputise is Maraga.”

Omondi praised Maraga’s United Green Movement Party, saying it is “the strongest party with the strongest candidate whose values are anchored on integrity and accountability.”

Oundo called for political change in 2027, telling young people: “In 2027, do not change the monkeys and keep the forest. You must get rid of the regime entirely.”

The movement has held rallies and public engagements in Kitengela, Kisumu, Mombasa, Thika and Machakos, with plans for activities in Kisii and Nyamira counties on June 26, 2026.

Talks of opposition cooperation emerge

Despite differences in approach and messaging, discussions about possible cooperation among opposition groups continue.

Some leaders have called for broader unity ahead of the 2027 elections, while others have urged dialogue between different political formations.

Recent political engagements have shown growing interaction among opposition leaders as they seek common ground on governance, accountability and economic issues.

Salasya’s remarks highlight ongoing debate within opposition circles over the most effective strategy for mobilising support, as political activity intensifies ahead of the next General Election.
