Ruto’s team want to know debate topics

Deputy President William Ruto’s campaign secretariat has now demanded that moderators of Tuesday’s presidential debate confirm that questions will be centred on issues affecting Kenyans.

The Presidential Debate, which is set for July 26, will be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and begins at 5 pm.

“In the previous debates, we have witnessed the moderators concentrating on trivial personal issues at the expense of those affecting the common Kenyan. We want the organisers to make public the questions for the candidates for Kenyans to know the kind of leaders they will be elected,” Director of Communication at the Secretariat Hussein Mohamed said.

Ruto’s opponent, Azimio’s Raila Odinga is yet to confirm attendance.

Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango appeared to hint on his Twitter page that Raila was likely to miss the debate. Hussein said Ruto would like a debate where he will be given a chance to explain to Kenyans why they should vote for him.

Roots Party flagbearer George Wajackoyah has also lamented that the plan to split the candidates into two groups of the front-runners:  Raila and Ruto, and him together with the Agano party’s Waihiga Mwaure was biased.
