Ruto told me NADCO report will go nowhere, Gachagua warns Raila

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of deceiving Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga over the future of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

Speaking on Sunday, July 27, 2025, during a public engagement with Kenyans in the U.S., Gachagua warned Raila that he was being used and misled by the very people he has now chosen to work with.

“Although Raila Odinga and his members are abusing me for no reason, he is an old man, and I have seen here in America you take care of senior citizens. We must take care of the elderly,” Gachagua began, tempering his remarks with a tone of respect before issuing a direct and explosive warning.

Fate of NADCO report

He claimed that President Ruto himself had confided in him, admitting that the NADCO report—a product of months of bipartisan talks meant to resolve national political tensions—would never see the light of day.

“I want to tell you, Raila Odinga, that William Ruto told me that the NADCO report will go nowhere. He is just conning you,” Gachagua declared.

“He has told Ichung’wah and company in parliament to delay it until the next elections.”

Gachagua further alleged that Ruto and his allies are only entertaining Raila to keep him distracted and politically subdued.

Bwana Prime Minister, ile kitu huyo Kasongo ataonyesha wewe, uliza mimi,” he warned.

“When he brought Raila, I asked him what’s going on, and he said, ‘We are just managing this mzee… tumtafutie kitu kidogo ya kukula anyamaze.’”

The former Deputy President’s remarks have added new fuel to the already tense political climate, suggesting deep mistrust and manoeuvring within Kenya’s ruling and opposition elite.

ODM tensions

His claims come at a time when Raila Odinga has softened his stance against President Ruto, prompting criticism from some Azimio supporters who see the shift as a betrayal of the protest movement’s core ideals.

Gachagua’s remarks also come as some leaders, particularly those serving in President William Ruto’s government under the ODM-UDA agreement, continue to accuse the Orange party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of overstepping, calling for his resignation.

This follows Sifuna’s explosive interview on a local TV channel, where the Nairobi Senator declared the ODM-UDA MoU “dead,” citing unfulfilled promises by the government and increased extrajudicial killings, including the controversial death of blogger Albert Ojwang.
