Ruto returns to Mt Kenya for church service days after regional tour
By Emmanuel Rono, May 3, 2026President William Ruto has made a return to the Mt Kenya region, where he is attending a church service on Sunday, May 3, 2026,, just days after concluding an extensive tour of the area.
The Head of State, who has been intensifying his political and development engagements across the mountain region, joined congregants for the Sunday service at A.I.C. Githumu, Kandara, Murang’a County.
The president’s return to the region reaffirms his continued connection with the region that played a key role in his 2022 election victory and the readiness ahead of the next polls.
During the service, Ruto was accompanied by several local leaders and government officials who have been part of his recent development tours across the region.
Readiness for 2027 polls
The visit comes at a time when the president has been seeking to consolidate support in Mt Kenya through a mix of religious engagements, infrastructure pledges, and meetings with grassroots leaders.
The tour, encompassing Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, and Kiambu counties, was officially framed as a development initiative, but political analysts suggest it was a strategic move to regain favour following a rift with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The tour, occurring amidst heightened political tensions after Gachagua’s impeachment, was seen by many as an attempt to mend strained relations in a region that overwhelmingly supported Ruto in the 2022 election.
