Ruto, Raila to receive talks report this month
President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga will officially receive the report of the bipartisan talks later this month.
National Dialogue Committee led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka (Azimio La Umoja ) and National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah (Kenya Kwanza) yesterday announced that their final report will be presented to the two principals before November 22.
Speaking after holding a closed-door session, Kalonzo and Ichung’wah exuded confidence that the committee shall on Thursday next week meet to review and consider all the proposals presented to them by the experts on various sectors of the economy.
“We shall reconvene on Thursday next week to review and refine the various proposals on the cost of living and consider legislative instruments that will inform the policy, legislative, and administrative framework,” said Kalonzo.
After consolidating all views from the experts, the committee will retreat from November 12 to commence drafting of the final report which is slated for presentation to the president and Raila. The report will also be tabled to both houses of parliament.
“We are delighted to adhere to the 90- day mandate of the committee which culminates on November 26,” said Kalonzo.
Meanwhile, the committee shall on Monday receive views on the Housing Levy from the Ministry of Housing. The presentations on the controversial tax that affects formally employed workers in the country was to be made yesterday but it aborted after officials from the ministry and other experts on housing failed to show up.
