Ruto kicks off Migori tour after Wanga warns of UDA influence in Nyanza

President William Ruto has pitched camp in Migori County, just hours after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga fired a warning over the growing influence of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Nyanza region.
The head of state who has kicked off his three-day development tour of Migori County is currently attending an interdenominational prayer service before embarking on his tour.
Ruto is currently in National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed’s Suna East Constituency at Kadika Primary School, where the interdenominational prayer service is being held.
Ruto is expected to address the claims made by the leaders allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, who have been rattled by the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.

Ruto’s Migori itinerary
He will then head to the Suna West constituency, where he is expected to launch the construction of a Technical Training Institute (TTI) and unveil the Deputy County Commissioner’s office at Piny Oyie.
The head of state will subsequently preside over the launch of the Kehancha Affordable Housing Project in Kuria West.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, the President will visit Rongo for an inspection tour of the Kosir ESP market and the unveiling of buildings at Rongo Comprehensive School, Kosir, and Rongo Town.

While in Awendo, Ruto will launch the construction of Awendo Animal Health Training Institute, Alara Nyambija in North Sakwa, and head to Uriri for the inspection of ESP Market and issuance of a school bus to St. Pius Uriri High School, Oria Market in North Kanyamkago.
He will later head to Nyatike to launch construction of Muhuru Bay Pier, inspect Muhuru modern market and unveil the contractor for Muhuru-Masara Road.
Ruto is expected to conclude his tour on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with a tour of Kuria East, where he will inspect Ntimaru ESP Market and Affordable Housing Project and preside over the issuance of a school bus to Gokeharaka Secondary School in Ntimaru Town.
Wanga’s outburst
His tour of Migori kicks off at a time ODM party leaders have vowed not to allow the ruling UDA to destabilise ODM strongholds by making strides into the Nyanza region.
The anger was fuelled by the killing of Kasipul MP Charles Were.

Speaking on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Wanga said while the ODM party agreed to work with Ruto’s government, it never agreed to the targeted assassination of its members.
She warned against political incitement in the region and reaffirmed her commitment to defend the party’s presence in Nyanza.
“As the national chairman of the ODM party, I also want to make it very clear that Homa Bay County and the entire Nyanza region is an ODM zone. The next time I see people in this region shouting ‘UDA’, we will not agree; we will not accept. It will not happen under my watch as the national chairman of the ODM party,” Wanga affirmed.
