President William Ruto has intensified his charm offensive in the Nyanza region by hosting a delegation from Kisii and Nyamira counties at State House, Nairobi, as part of his broader strategy to consolidate political support ahead of the next election cycle.

Ruto’s move to raid the region for political support comes amid the former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, a renowned leader from the Gusii community, seeking to unseat Ruto by declaring his presidential candidature under the Jubilee ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting, held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at State House Nairobi brought together elected leaders, led by South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro and influential figures from the two counties as the Head of State seeks to reinforce ahead of the 2027 general election. The development comes after President William spent the better half of the week in Homa Bay County commissioning various projects during the Devolution Conference in the Nyanza region.

Ruto’s message

In his message, Ruto asserted that today’s transformation in the country demands bold leadership anchored in progressive and innovative plans and policies.

”Kenya’s transformation demands decisive and bold leadership anchored in progressive and innovative plans and policies. Through difficult but necessary choices, we have stabilised our economy, shielding it from turbulence and restoring investor confidence,” President Ruto said on Friday, August 15, 2025.

He further added that the country’s economy is on the move and generating adequate resources. ”Today, our economy is on a firm growth trajectory, generating adequate resources to upgrade our infrastructure, modernise services and expand the delivery of essential public goods. With grassroots leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties, State House, Nairobi County.”

Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Ruto said Kenya will only transform through the implementation of strategic and deliberate programmes, not empty rhetoric.

”As we roll out our comprehensive, transformative agenda, we will ensure every region shares in this progress. In Migori County, broke ground for the construction of the Awendo Affordable Housing Project and addressed residents of Awendo. The project will deliver about 300 housing units, hence address the rising demand for decent and affordable homes, besides creating more than 500 jobs for our youth and women. This will stimulate the region’s economy and improve the quality of life for the people of Awendo.”
