Ruto asked to apologise to CS Wamalwa

By , July 13, 2022

Eminent persons and elders drawn from various communities living in Trans Nzoia County have called on Deputy President William Ruto to apologise to Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa and the people of Trans Nzoia following “body shaming” remarks he made on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at a political rally in Saboti.

Addressing a press conference at Kitale, led by Trans Nzoia County Peace Committee chairperson Christopher Makokha, the group said Ruto’s “demeaning remarks” should be withdrawn and an apology rendered to the CS.

Makokha, who is also Bukusu Council of elders’ chairperson, said Ruto failed by trying to correct God’s creation.

“I am asking Ruto not to interfere with what God created. God’s creation is a sacred affair that should not be joked with,” Makoha said.

Justina Siti, Eugene’s aunt, said she was shocked to hear what the country’s second-in-command said in reference to their loved one.

“I am very bitter because our son, Eugene is not a woman as alleged by Ruto. If he has not been blessed with a child, it does not mean he is a woman; he is a man, should I cry or what should I do?” Siti asked.

Elders reprimand Ruto

David Kabuya, Kikuyu Council of Elders chairperson called on Ruto not to desist from making such remarks in his campaign trails.

“I am joining other elders in condemning what Ruto said about Eugene. Such reckless and demeaning remarks should not have come from a person of stature like that of a Deputy President. How do you mention such words in the presence of children and young girls?” Kabuya posed.

Mzee Pius Arap Kauka, former Kitale Municipality Deputy Mayor, said Ruto should be compelled to withdraw the remarks and apologise within 24 hours or risk losing his Trans Nzoia votes.

“His remarks have caused a lot of discomfort amongst the communities living in this cosmopolitan county. He should therefore retract his remarks if he really needs the votes of the people of Trans Nzoia,” Kauka said.
