Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua claims that Mt Kenya tycoons who met and endorsed ODM Leader Raila Odinga are only interested in protecting their wealth and creating more wealth in future.

The Ruto-allied lawmaker sought to debunk the claim by the billionaires that they are out to champion for the interests of Mt Kenya residents.

“Those rich men who met Raila don’t care about issues affecting Mt Kenya locals. They are only interested in how they will protect their wealth and how they will make more wealth in the next government,” he said.

The lawmaker who was speaking at an event held at Ruto’s Karen residence, highlighted past instances where the tycoons kept silent as the state suppressed Mt Kenya residents.

“When our people were evicted from Nyamakima they did not meet to address the issue. When clashes broke out in Laikipia they did not offer any donations to the displaced persons. They have not even helped equip our people with PEPs in the Covid-19 period, yet they have the wherewithal to buy face masks for everyone in the Mt Kenya region,” he added.

Gachagua further stated that the Mt Kenya Foundation have from time immemorial spread their risks and are not worth trusting. The lawmaker said that the tycoons financed both former President Mwai Kibaki and his opponent President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002.

According to him, by financing rivals the foundation proved that they have no stand and are only interested in securing their wealth and investment opportunities.

“These people invest on everybody. In 2002 they invested in Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, to increase their chances of being in government in any event. In 2007 they also invested in Kibaki and his opponent Raila Odinga, so that they gain either way,” he stated.
