Raila’s ardent Kericho supporter Lawi Korir defects to Gachagua’s DCP
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 5, 2025Lawi Arap Korir, a content creator and former ardent follower of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has decamped to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
While speaking during the DCP Youth League forum held at the party’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Korir, who hails from Kericho in the Rift Valley, expressed his commitment to the DCP and the entire United Opposition in their quest to ensure that President William Ruto’s presidency does not extend past 2027.

Despite being from a region that largely supports Ruto, Korir has always been a vocal critic of the president while strongly supporting Raila Odinga.
He urged DCP members not to give President William Ruto a chance at re-election in 2027, warning that only then would Kenyans experience the full wrath of the head of state, saying his first term in office was just a precursor of things to come.
“Mimi naitwa lawi arap korir, natoka Kericho, na mambo ni wanatam. mkiruhusu huyu mtu arudi mara ya pili mtajua hamjui. kama kuna uzuri ameonyesha ni hii term ya kwanza. mkiruhusu arudi mara ya pili ataonyesha ubaya wake,” lawi said

Lawi Korir’s rise
With political fanaticism propelling individuals from humble backgrounds into the spotlight, Lawi Korir is among those who have risen to prominence.
His rise to clout came as a result of using his platforms before and after the 2022 general elections to criticise the president, an unusual stand in the Rift Valley, where many were pro-Ruto.
He emerged as one of the few dissenting voices in the region.
Kneeling before Raila
Korir caught the public’s attention on Tuesday, June 28, 2025, at Kamkunji Grounds, where he delivered a fiery speech after being introduced by Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah.
After his speech, which was marked by criticism of President Ruto, Korir proceeded to kneel before Raila Odinga as he shook his hand, an act that went viral.
Nuru Okanga’s situation
Another figure with a similar rise is Nuru Okanga, who has also gained widespread attention for his staunch support of Raila Odinga.

Okanga recently criticised the manner in which the late prime minister was buried with his fly whisk and hat, claiming that Raila came to him in a dream expressing discomfort, saying such traditional items should not be buried.
After Raila Odinga’s death, Lawi Korir made his way to Opoda Farm to pay his respects to his political hero. He is now part of the DCP Youth League, representing the Kericho chapter.
