Raila says Chebukati should face ICC prosecution

By , January 7, 2023

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya party leader Raila Odinga has supported President William Ruto’s pledge during his joint media interview to probe how the August 9 polls were conducted and the various events that transpired at the Bomas of Kenya.

Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, the opposition leader acknowledged the plans saying Kenyans need to know the truth on what happened at the Bomas during the announcement of the presidential results.

Juzi ulisikia wakisema wabunge upande ule ati uchunguzi ufanyike kuhusu Bomas of Kenya…mimi nasema alham dulilahi…wamechukua wale commissioners 4 ati wanashtakiwa walifanya maovu,” he said.

While still defending the embattled four IEBC commissioners – Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya, Raila says the investigation should focus on the former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

According to the Azimio leader, Chebukati should also be tried and charged at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague failure to which the 2027 general election will not be conducted.

Mpaka tusafishe takataka ya Chebukati, yale amefanya ni crime against humanity anafaa apelekwe Hague ashatakiwe huko….kama haitafanyika hakutakuwa na haja Wakenya 2027 waende uchaguzi,” he opined.

At the same time, Odinga rubbished retirement chatter and cracks in the opposition adding that he will give directions in the near future.

“Wanasema kuwa mti kuu ukianguka wana wa ndege huyumba, nawambia msife moyo kuna njia…na hivi karibuni nitaongea niwaambie njia tutafuata. Wananiambia ati Raila aende Bondo…mimi nikitaka kwenda Bondo ninajua njia…lakini sio Ruto ndio ananipeleka Bondo, Wakenya wamesema Baba aendelee,” he said.

In the meantime, he said, the ODM party is focused on empowering and building the party in preparation for the 2027 general election.
