Raila picks date, venue to announce his running mate

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga will Monday announce his preferred running mate for the August 9 general election.
Speaking during a political rally in Kamukunji, Nairobi, Raila said he will make the announcement at KICC at 11 am.

Raila’s announcement comes hours after his Presidential Campaign Secretariat spokesman Professor Makau Mutua sent out a short press release earlier on Sunday.
“Our campaign is aware that Kenyans are anxious to know the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Presidential ticket. We will make the announcement tomorrow,” Mutua said.
The announcement will come a day after Deputy President William Ruto announced Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate, ending a 24-hour stalemate in his Karen residence.

The running mate selection panel for Azimio has already submitted three names to Raila who impressed during the vetting process.
In the list of Raila’s possible running mates are Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege.
Others who were interviewed by the selection panel are Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Agricultural CS Peter Munya, two-term Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and former Kenyan Ambassador to Australia Stephen Tarus.
