Raila Junior questions leaders’ maturity after vile attack on Vihiga Senator
Raila Junior has questioned leaders’ demonstration of maturity following the attack on the Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the late Raila Odinga’s son condemned the attack on Senator Osotsi.
On his part, Raila Junior, while condemning all forms of political violence, also called on leaders to rise above and demonstrate integrity, maturity, and a genuine commitment to peace
“My deepest sympathies and wishes for a speedy recovery to Hon. Otsosi. I condemn in the strongest possible terms all forms of political violence. Leaders must rise above this and demonstrate integrity, maturity, and a genuine commitment to peace. Kenya deserves better,” Raila Junior stated.

Oburu’s remarks on the attack
Meanwhile, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Oburu Odinga, has also condemned the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfery Osotsi, calling for urgent action against the perpetrators.
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the ODM leader described the attack as a cowardly act.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound concern that I have received news of the physical attack on the Senator of Vihiga County, Hon. Godfrey Osotsi. On behalf of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the entire leadership fraternity, I wish Senator Osotsi a full and speedy recovery,” Oburu said.
According to the ODM leader, the Osotsi’s attack was not only unfortunate but utterly unacceptable in a civilised, democratic society.
Osotsi attack
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is nursing injuries at the Karen Hospital following an assault by a group of armed goons in Kisumu County on Wednesday, April 8.
According to Derick Luvega, Director of Communication at the Vihiga Senate Office, Osotsi had made a routine visit to the Acacia area to get a haircut before proceeding to Java restaurant, where he met a friend and also interacted with members of the public.
Shortly after, a group of gun-wielding individuals is said to have confronted him, questioning him over his political allegiance.
Luvega indicated that Osotsi’s security detail exercised restraint to avoid discharging firearms in public and hurting innocent lives in the process.
“We strongly condemn this barbaric and cowardly act, which appears to have been premeditated and orchestrated,” the statement read in part.
“It is important to emphasise that this isolated incident should not, in any way, be used to tarnish the image of the people of Kisumu, who have consistently demonstrated warmth and hospitality, as evidenced by the Senator’s free movement and interactions prior to the attack.”
