Raila heads overseas for vacation after month of political activity
By Luke Oluoch, August 23, 2025Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has travelled out of the country for a vacation overseas.
The ODM leader took to his X page on Saturday, August 23, 2025, revealing that his trip was to offer him some time alone to unwind and recharge.
The former PM also stated that he was taking time to be with his family and friends.
“On a short break away from Kenya with family and friends; taking time to recharge. See you soon,” he stated.
Raila’s overseas trip comes after a series of significant political events that have kept the ODM leader and the seasoned politician in the spotlight.

Barely a week ago, Raila led his ODM party in holding a joint parliamentary group meeting with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance.
The session brought together legislators from both coalitions under the framework of the broad-based government arrangement, signifying a potential shift in Kenya’s political landscape, with possible implications for the 2027 general election.
In what was an affirmation of the stance towards government support, legislators from the parties agreed to a six-point agenda. including the strengthening of national unity, coordinating joint policies, and assessing progress on the 10-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two parties in March.
The event in Karen, Nairobi, was preceded by what was construed as his strongest endorsement of the Kenya Kwanza government during his speech on Friday, August 8, 2025.
“I wish to urge the broad-based government’s detractors to grant us the room we require and to reserve their verdicts for 2027. We have made it clear that this broad-based government will remain in place until the 2027 elections, after which we shall chart the path forward,” Raila declared with conviction.

Odinga also dismissed the wantam chants directed at President Ruto, stressing that it is the sovereign will of the Kenyan people that will ultimately determine the duration of any leader’s tenure.
“It is Kenyans who will determine the terms, and we shall see where we choose to proceed. Such noise, this ‘Wantam’ clamour, resembles the croaking of a frog; it cannot stop the cow from drinking water. The cow will drink, and we shall certainly move beyond 2027. I hold no doubt about this,” he asserted.
The politician’s remarks came amidst certain figures within the party questioning the partnership with UDA.
