The ongoing Mount Kenya supremacy wars have intensified giving birth to two opposing camps, one supporting the Deputy President Rigathi

The second camp is believed to be gravitating towards Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro dividing the politically homogeneous region leaders divided in the middle. Governors, Members of Parliament have joined either side going for each other’s jugular.

The political shadow boxing has seen young politicians from the region rally behind Nyoro’s kingship, a situation that has detonated the political tiff.

Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia, a youthful parliamentarian who rode to the August house on an independent ticket threw his weight behind Nyoro saying that he not only boasts of huge numbers but is also rich in resources. Kururia who spoke to journalists in Gatundu said the Dp should stop forcing himself on the people.

“Politics is about persuading the agenda that you are selling. not arrogant and bossy lectures on how you are the undisputed Kingpin of the mountain. We know who we want and this time round we have decided to rally behind young politicians who have a future and a vision for the region. We are all rallying behind Nyoro because he understands the region better,” added Kururia.

“While President William Ruto is the political leader of the region, Nyoro has the blessings of the community, his political nemesis should stop fighting his determination.”

Increase allocation

The scrimmage between the two camps has brought to the fore what appears to be built up rebellion against Kenya’s number two exposing the deep seated differences of leaders from the region.

Leaders from across the country have recently been criticising the DP over his call for implementation of one-man, one-shilling, one-vote revenue sharing formula that seeks to increase the allocation disbursed to Central Kenya owing to the region’s huge population. “The government

was formed by President William Ruto who managed to gather massive support from across the country. This therefore means that the political kingpin for Mt Kenya is President Ruto because he has the majority political support from the region owing to the number of MPs his party sponsored in parliament,” said Kururia.

Meanwhile proponents of the Gachagua mantra have vowed to rally behind Gachagua saying that the region must be united to achieve social-economic developments.

Led by Maragua MP Mary Waithera the leaders said those that are driving the agenda to belittle, demean and ridicule the DP are in for a rude shock.

Waithera who is serving her second term said that all politics are local and should instead champion the Deputy President’s mantra for their political survival.

“Those insulting Gachagua and those being used to drive a narrative against our son should know that politics and everything else start from the village level up to the national level.

Fuelling conflict

Why are people are perturbed by the deputy president’s call for unity in his backyard? she posed.

She went on: “The forces fuelling conflicts within the region are afraid of its unity of purpose due to its useful population of voters.

 On Sunday, DP Gachagua supported his formula saying his calls for unity of purpose in the region was critical because the region has unique challenges that require it to be addressed.

“Unity starts from the family level to the village, to the location, sub-county, county, regional and ultimately to the country. I have done what is possible within my limited abilities, let people not create narratives that do not exist,” said Gachagua.
