Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei has said the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition is free to hold its meeting at Kamukunji grounds this afternoon.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Bungei explained that the coalition led by Raila Odinga had made prior requests which were approved.

“They made requisite requests and they were granted. We are allowing the meeting to take place and there is no cause for alarm,” Bungei stated.

The police boss assured city residents that security officers were on the ground to enhance safety and order during the meeting.

“We are on the ground to ensure the rally is peaceful. We will provide the needed security,” he added.

Raila and his team were set to hold the meeting after he returns to the country from Poland to give a way forward after the approval of the Finance Bill 2023 which was signed into law by President William Ruto on Monday, June 26, 2023.

The approval of the Bill came after 184 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted yes to it during the third reading held in Parliament on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua echoed Raila’s sentiments noting that the coalition will converge to give directives on the way forward.

‘We have decided to invite Kenyans to a consultation at the Kamukunji grounds next Tuesday, June 27 where the course of action will be decided. This time there will be no difference. We believe in the end it’s the people’s voice that will prevail,” she stated.

So far, the coalition supporters have thronged Kamukunji awaiting Raila’s remarks.
