By Mabonga Makhanu, May 22, 2026Democratic for Citizens (DCP) economic adviser Peter M. Bae has stated that the party will soon unveil their party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, as their presidential candidate.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Friday, May 22, 2026, the vocal Nakuru senatorial hopeful continued to state that after the former deputy president had been presented as the party’s presidential candidate.

He will then be presented to the united opposition to battle with his fellow bigwigs on who will challenge William Ruto in 2027.
“For the record, DCP will soon formally unveil Riggy G as our presidential candidate and present him to the united opposition as best suited to face William Ruto.”
This comes at a time when all the united opposition principals have been cleared by their respective parties as their preferred flag bearers.
With the Democratic Party being the latest outfit within the united opposition to front Justin Muturi as its preferred presidential flag bearer and present him to the united opposition.
DCP party endorses Gachagua
This also comes at a time when the DCP party has been rallying around the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, as the best person to face Ruto in 2027.

This has seen his deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, vouching for Rigathi to be given the role of facing Ruto in 2027, saying that he is the only person who will guarantee the opposition a win if greenlighted to vie.
He further argued that should the united opposition make the mistake of presenting a manager-like politician, whom he did not specifically point out, it would be an early win for President William Ruto.
On the other side, Nyandarua Senator John Methu has also exuded confidence in his party leader, Rigathi Gachagua.
He has also come out to vouch for Gachagua’s presidency. According to him, the DCP leader enjoys significant support of over 5 million votes, saying that there is no way he can deputise someone who has a voter base of 3 million votes.
Flagbearer selection metric

On the other side, the united opposition is conflicted on which metric to use when deciding who will be the presidential flag bearer.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka wants them to use a consensus form of selecting their flag bearer, but Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i is vouching for a scientific poll.
where they carry out an opinion poll around the country, and whoever obtains more votes becomes the presidential flag bearer, with the second becoming the deputy president and the third prime minister in that hierarchy.
Gachagua has also come out to back Matiang’i’s proposal of a scientific poll.
