Digital activist Pauline Njoroge has come out to explain why she is interested in vying for a political seat in Nairobi City.

Speaking during an interview aired on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Njoroge said she was born in Githunguri and that from a young age she had always harboured ambitions of vying for a political seat in her home constituency. However, after moving to Nairobi, she said her political ambitions shifted to the city.

She expressed disappointment with the current state of Nairobi, taking issue with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s slogan “Nairobi lazima iwork”, saying the reality on the ground is that “Nairobi haiwork.” According to her, the city is not functioning as expected.

Nairobi challenges

Njoroge cited several challenges affecting city residents, including poor water and sanitation services, which she said are critical to the survival of Nairobians but are largely lacking, leaving residents in turmoil and negatively affecting their daily lives.

She further stated that whatever plans the current county government has for the city have failed to work, adding that Nairobi needs a new, people-centred plan focused on service delivery.

“Nairobi needs a new plan; the pain that currently exists, or whatever those in power imagine is the plan, is not working for the people of Nairobi.”

“We need a new plan for Nairobi, a plan that is people-focused and service-delivery-focused, and I want to be part of a team that actually delivers that plan.”

She said this is why she wants to be part of a team that will see such a plan implemented and help the city achieve the status it deserves. She added that she will soon announce the specific seat she intends to vie for.

“Yes, I will be vying in Nairobi; I will communicate that in due time,” she added.

Digital activism

Njoroge, who is widely known for her digital activism and public relations work using social media as her main tool, declared that she is firmly in the United Opposition. She said she is ready to help advance the coalition’s quest for power in the 2027 elections using her skills and experience.

Her presence on social media has been particularly prominent during election periods. In 2013, when social media was still gaining traction, she actively campaigned for The National Alliance (TNA) party, then led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In 2017, she strongly supported the Jubilee Party, and in 2022, she rallied behind the Azimio la Umoja coalition, campaigning for the election of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his running mate, PLP party leader Martha Karua.
