Pauline Njoroge reveals why she decided to run for Nairobi governor
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 26, 2026The Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary, Pauline Njoroge, has revealed the reason behind her entry into the Nairobi race for the governor’s position in 2022
Speaking in an interview at Kameme FM with celebrated radio host Muthoni Kirumba, alias Baby Top, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Njoroge announced that her decision to run for the top seat in Nairobi has been necessitated by her visits across various cities in the world and has been challenged by the development in those cities, citing that she has a dream of making Nairobi develop into a competitive city in terms of urban planning and infrastructure.
“I am vying, and I announced my intentions in December 2025 through an interview, and I have started going around Nairobi because I believe I am the new deal for Nairobi. It is only a fool who does not change their mind. I have gone around many cities around the world, and I have seen how well towns are planned and cleaned. Most cities have 24-hour security; it is tight. In that case, I asked myself if the cities are run by people like us, and that’s why I want to run for the governor’s seat to make Nairobi like these cities,” Pauline noted.

Pauline has said that her current focus is to occupy the City Hall office and make changes across the city, as she believes she is the new deal that Nairobi County needs in the office.
Pauline has further stated that since December 2025, when she announced the bid to run for the governor’s seat, she has traversed across the county and has commenced grassroots meet-the-people tours in Nairobi, as she labels herself as the new entrant in the race that the city needs.
Battle for Nairobi Governor
The entry of the Jubilee deputy organising secretary into the race for city control cannot be ignored as she aims to battle it out with other political heavyweights, including Embakasi North member of parliament James Gakuya, who has also declared interest in running for the seat. Gakuya is allied with the Democracy for the Citizens Party, led by the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, while Pauline belongs to the former president Uhuru’s Jubilee Party, and the two sides are leaning towards the united opposition.

The Nairobi gubernatorial race to oust the incumbent governor, John Sakaja of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has also attracted the Orange Democratic Party’s Embakasi East legislator, Babu Owino, who has been outspoken in his bid.
The race for the top seat in Nairobi will undoubtedly not be a walk in the park with more entrants expected in the race ahead of political alignments in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
