Owalo explains how he can use his experience to revive Kenyan economy

By , June 28, 2026

Former Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo has renewed his push for national leadership, declaring that, unlike politicians who make promises only during election season, his record in public service speaks for itself and proves leadership should be measured by results rather than empty rhetoric.

Speaking through his X account on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Owalo said Kenya’s leadership crisis has been fuelled by politicians who seek power through promises but fail ordinary citizens immediately after assuming office.

While projecting himself as a different kind of leader, Owalo cited his past experiences in institutional management as one key attribute that would help him revive the Kenyan economy.

“My work record speaks for itself. Many politicians make promises during elections, but leadership is measured by the record and results. I believe that experience in managing institutions with transparency and accountability can be used to build a strong economy and promote Kenya’s success in sports and other areas,” Owalo stated.

Owalo says Kenyans know his record

While addressing supporters, the former Deputy Chief of Staff said his years in public service have built a reputation founded on honesty, accountability and delivery, insisting Kenyans already understand the kind of leadership he represents.

“Mimi niko na track record ya uaminifu na Wakenya wanajua. Wanasiasa wanapeana ahadi kwa wananchi wakati wa uchaguzi halafu wakishaingia kwa serikali wanawaacha kwa mataa. Wakenya wanipe nafasi na tutafanya kazi pamoja ili tutekeleze mipango ambayo tuko nayo kwa huu ukombozi wa tatu wa kiuchumi wa nchi yetu,” Owalo said.

Fresh political ambitions taking shape

Owalo’s latest remarks come months after he revealed plans to unveil a new political party as he positions himself for the 2027 Kenyan General Election and prepares to challenge President William Ruto.

Earlier in 2026, Owalo said he intends to pursue what he described as an issue-based political agenda focused on tackling the high cost of living, unemployment, taxation and Kenya’s growing debt burden.

Open to working with opposition leaders

Owalo has also indicated willingness to work with leaders across the political divide, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and David Maraga, provided they share what he calls a common agenda focused on solving the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.

His latest remarks now add to growing signs that the 2027 presidential race is slowly beginning to take shape as new political players position themselves ahead of the high-stakes contest.
