Osotsi tells Gen Zs to occupy MPs’ premises if they pass Finance Bill 2026
By Mustafa Juma, May 31, 2026Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has sparked fresh political controversy after calling on young Kenyans, famously referred to as Gen Z, to “occupy” the premises of Members of Parliament who will vote in support of the Finance Bill 2026.
Speaking on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at AIC Kyanda Church ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally in Machakos, Osotsi intensified opposition attacks against the proposed bill, accusing the government of overtaxing Kenyans while engaging in wasteful expenditure.
In his remarks, the senator urged young people to monitor how lawmakers vote when the Finance Bill is tabled in Parliament.
He noted that his team will ask Gen Z to occupy the premises of the lawmakers who will vote in favour of the bill, regardless of their political affiliation.
“Gen Z mpo? Nataka ile siku ya kupiga kura ya Finance Bill mkuwe na register,” Osotsi said.
“Mbunge yoyote, awe wa serikali, awe wa upinzani, ambaye atapiga yes, we will ask you to occupy their premises.”

Osotsi hits out at Ichung’wah
Osotsi also took aim at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who has defended the Finance Bill and questioned how the government would raise revenue if the proposals are rejected.
Responding to Ichung’wah’s remarks, Osotsi claimed Kenya already has enough resources to run the country if government wastage is eliminated.
“Na nilisikia kiongozi wa walio wengi Kimani Ichung’wah akiuliza akisema ati “nyinyi watu wa upinzani mnatuambia tuangushe finance bill, tutatoa wapi pesa”. I want to tell Ichung’wah that serikali ya Linda ya Mwananchi, tukiingia hivi, the first thing will be to cut down on government expenditure. Kwasababu, there is a lot of wastage in government,” he said.

State House spending
The senator singled out State House expenditure as one of the areas he claimed would face drastic cuts under a future Linda Mwananchi administration.
“Can you imagine, for example, ati State House wanatumia kwa mwaka moja Ksh18 billion, and Kibaki showed us that you can even run State House with Ksh3 billion,” he said.
“So, first thing, we will cut down the expenditure of State House.”
Osotsi further criticised President William Ruto over the use of luxury aircraft during official travel, saying the president should either use the aircraft purchased by taxpayers or fly commercially.
“Sisi kama Wakenya tumenunulia rais ndege, lakini anaiwacha hapo, anaenda anachukua ndege ya kifahari,” he said.
“Sisi tunasema hivi, Linda Mwananchi tukichukua hii kiti we will cut down on those expenses za president, rais asafiri na ile ndege tulimpatia. Na kama hataki hiyo, aende na KQ.”
Finance Bill debate
The remarks come amid rising political temperatures ahead of the debate on the Finance Bill 2026, which has faced stiff opposition from sections of the opposition, civil society, and Gen Z activists.
Critics argue the bill introduces additional taxes and levies at a time when many Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living and unemployment.
The government, however, insists the proposed measures are necessary to increase revenue collection, reduce borrowing, and finance development programmes.
