Osotsi cautions ODM governors against using county funds for Ruto’s re-election push
By Enock Amukhale, January 24, 2026Sitting governors have been warned against using county public funds to campaign for President William Ruto’s second term.
Speaking in Vihiga County during the ODM consultative meeting, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who chairs the County investment and special funds committee in the senate, said they have agreed to monitor governors’ expenditures on political campaigns.
Osotsi said the governors’ mandate is to serve their electorates through development and service delivery, and not walking around to campaign for certain individuals.
He observed that there are governors who are using county funds to engage in campaigns, something that the Senate oversight committees will not entertain.
“The senators, led by Okiya Omtatah and me, resolved to monitor those governors who are using county public funds in political campaigns. We shall not spare any governors on that,” Osotsi warned.
Osotsi asked ODM governors not to be tricked into the mess of using county funds in UDA campaigns.
” I am asking governors, Paul Otwoma, Wilber Ottichilo, Gladys Wanga, not to be tempted to spend public county funds in President William Ruto’s two-term campaigns,” warned Osotsi.
Osotsi also cautioned ODM leaders against being bought to divide ODM, claiming UDA has come up with a well-calculated scheme to split the party.
