Orengo vows to stick to convictions amid backlash over ODM-Ruto alliance
By Luke Oluoch, December 6, 2025Siaya Governor James Orengo has reaffirmed his commitment to his principles, declaring he will not waver despite mounting backlash from a section of politicians from the Luo Nyanza region.
The renowned lawyer has come under sharp criticism for his hardline stance regarding ODM association with President William Ruto’s administration with his constant push for a stronger ODM and independence of political institutions.
Speaking in Bondo on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Orengo stressed that he will remain undeterred in his stance, having seen it all as an adviser to both Jaramogi Oginga and Raila Odinga in several governments.
Speaking truth
“I am one person who always likes to speak the truth. Even where people are gathered, I just speak my mind. Even when I face backlash or abuse, they will not deny me from sleeping with my wife,” he stated.
He specifically revisited the importance of the ODM’s top leadership adopting a listening ear towards the young generation and its youthful members.

“I want to say ODM is the biggest party, and we have seen and been in other governments before, including that which Jaramogi was in. We have been in government before, and if you want to be in government, it will not be the first time, but we have to stand for what is right,” he implored.
Democracy
The governor also cautioned leaders against attempts to trample on other people’s rights of opinions or suppress their voices.
“Let us not go ahead of the people. Let us listen to the young people. They are part of the future and will determine the direction of where we are going. We are in a democratic nation, and we must not fear anything. We have to stop fearing and ask for our rights, including what we demand from the government if it comes to that,” he added.
