Orengo faults Linda Ground faction over Ksh12B ODM funds claim
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 4, 2026The Siaya Governor has come out to take issue with the Linda Tumbo faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over the Ksh12 billion owed to the party by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
This followed remarks by the ODM chairperson, Gladys Wanga, during the party’s three-day retreat in Mombasa, where she acknowledged the debt owed to the party by the ORPP. Where the party was seeking to be paid.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Monday, May 4, 2026, the outspoken former senator responded to Wanga’s remarks, noting that it is a matter of public record that he personally initiated legal proceedings on behalf of ODM to determine the funds owed to the party by the government.
The court ruling
He stated that the Ksh12 billion figure exists today only because of the court ruling in the case he filed.
The self-proclaimed ODM party leader further noted that it is ironic for the Linda Ground group to now demand these funds from the President without acknowledging the legal groundwork he laid, adding that they have instead chosen to direct personal attacks at him.

ODM wrangles

This comes at a time when the ODM party is badly fragmented, with two factions emerging, each aiming to outdo one another.
This has involved seeing the party leader Oburu Odinga call for unity within the Orange Party, urging members to shelve their individual interests and focus on building the party which has been in existence for the past 2 decades.
He emphasised that ODM’s strength has always been rooted in its diversity, but that this strength can only be meaningful if members embrace one another despite their differences.
“As we take this day to rest and reflect with our families and communities, I want to share a message that has been heavy on my heart regarding the future of our great nation and our party, ODM. Our strength has always been our diversity, but that strength is only realised when we embrace each other. We can disagree on policy without ever disregarding our shared purpose and humanity,” Oburu’s statement read in part.
