Opposition leaders resort to daily hobbies to cool off by-elections steam
The United Opposition leaders on Saturday, November 29, 2015, sought refuge in recreational activities as they returned to normal lives after a whirlwind of campaigns.
Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) candidate in the Malava by-election, Seth Panyako, joined his party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, in enjoying a pool table game as they lost themselves to music at an undisclosed location.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Wamalwa asserted that their victory in the mini-polls was stolen.
Beaten
Panyako, who ran as the opposition consensus candidate, trailed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa by just over a thousand votes in the elections.
A similar closely contested outcome was witnessed in Mbeere North, where Newton Ndwiga, Karish, also failed to deliver the seat to the opposition after losing to Leonard Wa Muthende of the ruling party.
Meanwhile, in Malinya, Boni Khalwale resumed his favourite hobby of bullfighting as he joined an ecstatic crowd of bullfighting enthusiasts in the leisure activity renowned in the western region.

He, however, did not comment on the outcome of the mini-polls, with his previous statement being a wry smile posted back when preliminary results put Panyako in the lead in the parliamentary contest.
“Celebrations in galore. After the Malava by-election, homecoming at Malinya Stadium today!” he posted.
Ndakwa in Malava
The foregoing comes as David Ndakwa, the Malava MP-elect, embarked on reconnecting with his constituents, a day after being declared the victor of the crucial by-elections.
Accompanied by President William Ruto’s personal aide, Farouk Kibet, Ndakwa joined residents in religious and social gatherings, attending two funeral events and church activities as he traversed three counties in the region on a bustling Saturday.
Ndakwa’s engagement kicked off with a visit to Nangurunya Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church in East Kabras.
His itinerary also included visits to Shirugu-Mugai wards, South and West Kabras.
In his speech during a church service in Nangurunya, Ndakwa acknowledged the task of leadership, urging the residents to support him as he embarks on his new role.
Leadership responsibility
The leader pledged to prioritise an all-inclusive leadership during his tenure as the MP.
“Kupita kura ni rahisi lakini kuongoza watu ndio pahali ambapo pana kazi yenyewe. Naomba maombi yenu ya ujasiri unisaidie. Huu uongozi ni wenu Ni ninyi mmechangia mimi kuwa kiongozi. Sasa mmeniandika kazi vile niliomba, na naomba mniunge mkono na kunisaidia.”
