Ol Kalou: Residents contribute Ksh10 each to help DCP candidate buy suit
By Mustafa Juma, June 24, 2026Residents of Ol Kalou have raised funds through small individual contributions in a show of grassroots support for Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) parliamentary candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026.
According to a statement issued by DCP Secretary General John Methu on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, a total of 2,823 supporters each contributed Ksh10, raising Ksh28,230, which the group says will be used to support campaign activities and purchase a suit for the candidate in anticipation of a potential swearing-in should he win the contest.
Collective spirit
Methu described the initiative as a symbolic expression of confidence in the candidate, emphasising that the contribution was less about the amount raised and more about the collective spirit behind it.
“2,823 souls gave 10 shillings each to buy a suit for the swearing-in of the incoming Ol Kalou MP Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru,” Methu stated.
He further noted that the funds had also bolstered campaign morale, portraying the effort as a demonstration of strong community backing as the DCP candidate continues to canvass support across Ol Kalou Constituency.
“The 10 shillings movement really boosts our morale ahead of the 16th July moment of truth. It’s not the money, it’s the love,” he stated.

The statement comes as political activity intensifies in the constituency ahead of the closely watched by-election, which was triggered following the vacancy left by the previous Member of Parliament, David Kiaraho, who died on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Ol Kalou by-election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared multiple candidates to contest the seat, setting up a competitive race involving major political parties and independent aspirants.
Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, the DCP candidate, is among the contenders seeking to capitalise on growing grassroots mobilisation, with his supporters increasingly using small-scale contributions and community-driven fundraising as part of his campaign strategy.
He will face off with Samuel Muchina of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), among other candidates.
The Ol Kalou by-election is shaping up to be a key contest in Nyandarua County, drawing attention from both local and national political actors due to its potential implications for regional political dynamics.
Campaigns have intensified across the constituency, with aspirants focusing on issues such as youth unemployment, infrastructure development, and agricultural support, as they seek to win over voters ahead of the July 16 poll.
The IEBC has urged candidates and their supporters to maintain peaceful campaigns and adhere to electoral regulations as the race enters its final stretch.
