ODM targets Coast university students during anniversary celebrations
By Joel Masibo, November 15, 2025The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has cast its net wide by targeting university students amid the three-day political outfit’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
Speaking while gracing the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) cultural evening on Friday, November 14, 2025, the ODM party top leadership, led by Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga, affirmed that the party is strong in the absence of its long-serving leader, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The ODM battalion wrapped up a long day of meetings with university student leaders at the coast by engaging the youth at TUM, where she also pledged her support for the ODM Students’ Front. Gladys Wanga also promised a brighter future for the party in the wake of mixed signals within, ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
ODM targets students
”The future of ODM is bright, and it’s on campus! We’ve just concluded meetings with student leaders across the Coast, and the energy is incredible. That’s why I’m proud to back the new ODM Students’ Front; mentoring the next generation and securing the resources they need to be a visible, powerful force for our party’s values,” Wanga noted.

The ODM party has taken a different approach in marking its 20 years of formation. The Oburu-Odinga-led outfit has also targeted women at the coast as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the region, which has been standing with the late Raila Odinga in his political ambitions.
”The ODM party stands on the unwavering strength of its women. We continue Baba’s mission to shatter barriers and elevate women to the forefront of leadership, building a truly equitable Kenya,” Gladys Wanga said earlier during the ODM Women’s League Convention in Mombasa on Friday.
”Together with sisters from every corner of the nation, we launched two powerful pillars for change: the ODM Women’s League Charter and the Orange Women Rising Handbook. This marks a new chapter: a rising tide of women leaders, equipped and ready to shape our party and our country,” Wanga added.

ODM growing stronger
Echoing Wanga’s sentiments on the current state of ODM, Siaya County Governor James Orengo has said the party is riding on renewed strength.
”ODM is a party for the people! A movement rising with renewed strength, unity, and purpose, more powerful than ever before. Rooted in the struggles and hopes of ordinary citizens, ODM is stepping into a new era where the people’s voice drives every decision, shapes every reform, and fuels an unstoppable momentum for real change,” Orengo said on Friday.
