ODM officially removes Sifuna from SG position
By Sharon Atieno, June 22, 2026The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has formally removed Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General following a party disciplinary process that endorsed recommendations of its internal dispute resolution committee.
Speaking on Monday, June 22, 2026, ODM interim Secretary General Catherine Omanyo said the decision followed a review conducted in line with the party constitution.
Committee backs removal decision
“The party’s internal dispute resolution committee that was constituted in accordance with Article 51-3-F of the party constitution heard and determined the complaint concerning Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna in his capacity as the Secretary-General,” Omanyo said.
She added that the National Executive Committee (NEC) adopted the committee’s findings and recommendations without dissent.
“After going through the report and the findings… and Article 74 section 2 of the party constitution, the NEC unanimously resolved to adopt the committee’s recommendation and endorsed the removal from office of Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna,” she said.
Tribunal reference on party discipline
Omanyo also referenced the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which has previously underscored the importance of internal party democracy and disciplinary processes.
“The day any official of a party becomes above the law, so to speak, will be the day of the funeral of political party democracy in Kenya,” she quoted the tribunal as saying.

The tribunal further cautioned against external interference in party disciplinary matters, noting that such actions could amount to “micromanaging political parties” and undermine internal governance structures.
ODM bids Sifuna farewell
The party maintained that the decision was reached within constitutional and legal frameworks governing political party operations.
“We take this opportunity to wish our former Secretary-General well in his future endeavors and engagements,” Omanyo said.
ODM concluded by reaffirming its commitment to party unity and constitutional discipline, ending the statement with: “God bless ODM. God bless Kenya.”
