Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has waded into the succession politics of the country, terming former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as an indispensable tool in the bid to oust President William Ruto.

Taking to his X account on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the outspoken ODM MP cited the firebrand nature of the politician as necessary in helping unseat Ruto in 2027.

Amissi, who openly admitted to Gachagua’s tribal rhetoric as a downside of his politics, insists that those facets of the EX-DP’s character could as well be addressed afterwards.

“We can agree to disagree. I’m totally against his tribal sentiments and ethnic balkanization of the country, but the truth remains that #Gachagua is the necessary evil you need to remove Ruto from power,” he stated.

The MP, who has been a strong advocate of youthful leadership as a path to governance reform, further backed Gachagua’s to help raise a fresh new crop of leaders,

“You need Rigathi morning to evening, in studios and in rallies doing only the Lord’s work to support a revolutionary new generation team of leaders. His integrity and character can be handled later,” he stated.

Amisi’s remarks come after former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa also opened up on the opposition strategy to dethrone the head of state.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station, on Monday, April 14, 2025, Wamalwa revealed the working behind the scenes to build a strong and united political coalition against Ruto.

“I want to tell Kenyans not to lose hope. We are working on a coalition that will send Zakayo home. It’s the way to go because a divided opposition doesn’t,” Wamalwa remarked, underscoring the importance of unity in defeating what he described as a highly strategic and politically adept incumbent.

The DAP-K party leader went on to assure the public that preparations are already underway to replicate the 2002 scenario, stressing that the coalition being assembled will not only be formidable but also capable of winning in the first round.

“In 2002, we learnt our lesson. The opposition came together, and that’s how we were able to bring regime change,” he stated, implying that a similar strategy is what the country now needs to repeat to end Ruto’s tenure at State House.

“Now in 2027, we have learnt our lessons, and we know he will try to divide us—but we are assembling a team that will send Ruto home, round one, on the 10th of August 2027,” he declared.
