ODM leaders betrayed Raila after 2022 loss – Kabando wa Kabando
By Kiprono Keileb, December 30, 2025Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has called out a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders for betraying Raila Odinga after the 2022 General Election defeat, saying they are now unfairly blaming the fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, to hide their own failures.
In a hard-hitting statement posted on X on Tuesday, December 29, 2025, Kabando said the attacks on Uhuru by some ODM figures were dishonest and meant to shift blame away from those who were directly involved in managing coalition affairs during the campaign period.
Kabando’s remarks come amid renewed debate within ODM over the party’s direction, its engagement with President William Ruto’s administration, and responsibility for Raila’s loss to Ruto in the 2022 presidential race. He singled out Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and other ODM leaders, accusing them of rewriting history while enjoying the benefits of power and political deals.
“Junet is blaming Rais Uhuru for Raila’s 2022 defeat. He should, easily, recall himself as a boisterous controller of BBI moneybags. Even in our very own Mt.Kenya villages, Junet was the imported untouchable, condescending presidential events manager (MC), just as he had infamously starred at Bomas BBI charade. He knows the crooks ate Azimio agents’ money? I am not here to defend Uhuru because I truly know he would have done much better for Raila in our region, but the attacks on him by Junet, Wanga, Mbandi, Kaluma et al bouyed by cheeky Ruto smiles, are unfair and smirks naked dishonesty. These ODM guys milked Uhuru dry, including being rigged into parliamentary committees’ chieftaincy, alienating him from his own party MPs,” Kabando wrote
Kabando said Raila’s loss should not be blamed on outsiders but on internal failures and political betrayal by those who later chose to work closely with President Ruto. He argued that Raila stood for reform and national unity, values that are now being abandoned by some of his former allies.
“Ruto remains the same Ruto; Liar, Misuser, Sadist who deeply hated Raila Odinga. ODM shall never be the same without Agwambo – progressives will carry the better portion of what remains of the debris. Jakom was a real Enigma, a nationalistic magnet. Blaming Uhuru, after scapegoating Gachagua, just like how they blamed Kalonzo while Mzee Raila was taken ill, is simply to miss the salient, truthful point of the surrogate Rutoist plot. In any case, if they have chosen to cohabit with Ruto, who hated, ridiculed, insulted, derided, mocked & brutalised Rt. Hon Raila Odinga, who are they to determine for others with whom they should associate? The truth is, as able ODM SG, Edwin Sifuna, & Gov James Orengo, aka ‘Walking Constitution’, say, the ODM portion being auctioned to Ruto is just an empty shell. Kenyans of all walks of life, defying ethnicity and political party affiliations in their diversity, are earnestly yearning for Ruto Must. Go, and indeed, Ruto Must Go,” he stated
