ODM hails MPs Were, Kombe and Omondi after taking oaths of office

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has congratulated Members of Parliament elected under its ticket in the just concluded by-elections held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, as they took the oath of office.

Boyd Were of Kasipul Constituency, Harrison Gharama Kombe of Kasipul Constituency and Moses Omondi of Ugunja Constituency were sworn in on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in the National Assembly. ODM also hailed the Magarini lawmaker, Harrison Kombe, for prevailing in the mini polls after his victory was overturned by the court.

Assumption of office

”Congratulations, Hon. Boyd Were (Kasipul), Hon. Harrison Gharama Kombe (Magarini) and Hon. Moses Omondi (Ugunja) on your assumption of office this afternoon after successful election in the Thursday 27th Nov. by-elections. To Hon. Kombe, this is the second time your election is being overturned by the courts and you emerge victorious in the subsequent by-elections. You are a rare gem. To all of you, we wish you all the best in your responsibilities to serve the people,” ODM said in a statement on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Other MPs sworn in Tuesday include Ahmed Maalim Hassan of Banissa Constituency, David Athman Ndakwa of Malava Constituency and Leo Wamuthende Njeru of Mbeere North. Before taking oath of office, the ODM MPs were at Chungwa House for a familiarisation meeting. They were received by the top party officials, including party leader Oburu Odinga and his deputy Abdulswammad Nassir, among others.

Commenting on the swearing-in ceremony, ODM deputy party leader Abdulswammad Nassir urged the lawmakers to work for the public diligently.

”We remain immensely proud of your courage, commitment, and unwavering belief in the ideals of our movement. We live to fight another day, and together, we shall return stronger, more united, and more determined,” Abdulswammad Nassir took to X.

Service to the people

”To those who emerged victorious, we commend you for earning the trust of the people. Now, the real work begins. Serve with distinction, remain grounded in the aspirations of your constituents, and fly the ODM flag high. Your victory is not just personal; it is for the movement, for our history, and for our future. ODM continues to stand firm, resilient, and ready for the next chapter. ‘Onwards!” he added.

Ahead of swearing-in, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, conducted an orientation session for the members-elect at the Speakers’ Gardens, Main Parliament Buildings. 

The orientation session covered registration and collection of bio-data, briefing on the use of the Chamber System, familiarisation tour of the precincts of Parliament and an overview of key legislative matters.
