ODM brigade urges Magarini voters to shame Gachagua with defeat in by-election

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leaders have stepped up their campaigns for their candidate in the Magarini parliamentary elections ahead of the November 27, 2025, elections.

Speaking in Garashani on Monday, November 3, 2025, Migori Women’s representative Fatuma Mohammed implored the voters to reject the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) candidate Stanley Kenga.

Shares

The former Kilifi County Deputy Speaker is Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP candidate in the polls and the main challenger to ODM’s Harrison Kombe.

Fatuma castigated Gachagua for his past remarks about a government of shares when he was the deputy president in the incumbent regime. She expressed astonishment at how he had suddenly acknowledged their existence to field a candidate in the mini-polls.

“We have that man who used to say that the president should not come to areas such as this, as they did not have shares in government. How come he now knows you exist and even has placed a candidate for his party in the coming by-elections?” She posed.

Shame him

“I ask you to put him and his candidate to shame in honour of Raila Odinga,” She added.

Her remarks were echoed by Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, who urged the voters to vote in Kombe as a response to the former DP.

“Gachagua used to say that government is solely for the people with shares. He added that Magarini and Kilifi County’s shares were very minimal. We need to show him that shares of our people have returned Kombe to parliament,” he stated.

Kenga contested the seat in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket before challenging the poll’s outcome after losing to Kombe. He was unveiled as the DCP candidate for the upcoming by-elections on October 3, 2025.

His party leader expressed confidence that the nominee would triumph over their rivals in the coming mini-polls scheduled for November 27, 2025.

“Today, we want to unveil our candidate in DPC who will win the seat. He is Stanley Karisa Kenga. He is the guy who won the last election, and the courts confirmed it. The people of Magarani will once again confirm him as the MP,” he stated.

Close race

He secured 11,925 votes, while Kombe obtained 11,946 votes, resulting in a narrow margin of only 21 votes between the two candidates.
