ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga outlined a deliberate pivot in the party’s political strategy during a women’s economic empowerment event.

Oburu, speaking during a women’s empowerment forum in Homa Bay on Friday, February 27, 2026, emphasised that empowering women remains central to nation-building, linking it to broader inclusive growth efforts. He declared a clear mission for ODM ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We are intentionally moving from the friction of political competition to the stability of collaborative governance to ensure a prosperous and inclusive nation for all.”

“Fortify the Orange House and Build Strategic Alliances.” This approach focuses on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures to maintain its position as Kenya’s most organised and resilient party. By investing in internal renewal, Oburu said ODM is preparing its members for future political challenges.

Cooperation of purpose with UDA

Joined by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and hosted by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, the gathering highlighted women’s role in national development and the emerging cooperation between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Central to Oburu’s address was a shift in approach toward UDA, describing the engagement as a cooperation of purpose guided by a Kenya First philosophy.

He stressed the importance of prioritising the 10-point national agenda for tangible results.

“We are reinforcing our grassroots structures from the ground up to ensure ODM remains Kenya’s most organised, resilient, and ideologically driven party. Our strength lies in our people, and our focus is on an internal renewal that prepares us for the challenges ahead.

“Our engagement with the UDA is a cooperation of purpose. It is rooted in a “Kenya First” approach, prioritising the 10-point national agenda to deliver tangible, life-changing results for every citizen.”

DP seat issue pops up

Deputy President Kindiki echoed this message, reassuring ODM leaders that the broad-based government provides space for all parties.

“Do not worry about anything. This broad-based government will be enough for all of us,” he said, highlighting residents’ desire for direct involvement in governance and development, including improvements in roads, electricity, and other services.

He emphasised that while the government operates under a broad-based arrangement meant to foster unity and national development, the deputy president’s seat is not part of any political bargain.

The Homa Bay event comes amid ongoing debates over the deputy presidency and 2027 election positioning.
