Oburu Odinga says Broad-Based Government will continue beyond 2027

Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Odinga has clarified that the Broad-Based government arrangement will continue beyond 2027, dismissing claims that the initiative was expected to end on March 7, 2026.

Speaking during the Joint Broad-Based Parliamentary Group meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Oburu explained that the cooperation framework between political leaders began long before the signing of the ten-point agenda that formalised the working arrangement.

“Broad-Based government started long before 10 pints agenda came,” the statement reads.

He also clarified that March 7 was never meant to mark the end of the agreement but rather to review progress made so far. The senator further told lawmakers that the arrangement is expected to run through the current political cycle and will not stop in the near term.

“March 7, which was slated for the date of making the report, was not the end of the arrangements. The broad-based arrangements go up to 2027,” Oburu stated.

He said the date was only meant to mark the anniversary of the moment when leaders formally adopted the ten-point agenda.

“The 7th of March was just to mark the beginning when this 10-point agenda was signed, it was an anniversary, it was to celebrate that anniversary and to give us an interim report of progress of implementation,” he stated.

Oburu also stressed that the reforms outlined in the ten-point agenda are long-term and cannot be completed within a short time.

“The 10-point agenda that we have been taken through is something that cannot end; it will continue into 2027 and beyond,” the statement reads.

The senator also called for reforms in the police service, saying officers should be trained in a way that supports citizens and upholds the Constitution.

“Police should be trained to help our people to fulfil the constitution for the people,” he stated.
