Speaking in a local TV interview on Sunday night, November 2, 2025, Oburu Odinga noted that Sifuna’s position on ODM affairs is the true representation of the party, despite a section within the formation accusing him of doublespeak and demanding his ouster.
Contrary opinions
As top brass within the ODM party has endorsed President William Ruto for a second stab at the presidency in the 2027 general elections, Edwin Sifuna has been maintaining his firm stance against Ruto’s candidacy, before and after the broad-based government formation between the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and ODM.

Oburu has defended Sifuna’s latest utterances, hinting at ODM fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 polls, insisting that it is the same position that the late party leader Raila Odinga took before his demise.
”Whatever Sifuna said is the correct position of the matter; he is not isolated. How can he be isolated when I am telling you that that is the position?” Oburu posed.
The Siaya County Senator dismissed the calls for Edwin Sifuna’s removal from ODM, basing his decision on his position on the current working relationship between UDA and ODM. Kileleshawa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has called for Sifuna’s ouster on the grounds of subversion and undermining the broa-based government.
Sifuna’s removal
”This is not the time to remove any member; it is time for unity within the party, and we need all members, including Sifuna. In my view, Sifuna is doing a good job.
Oburu’s sentiments come after Edwin Sifuna has cautioned politicians against the use of pro-Ruto chants while campaigning for ODM candidates for the upcoming by-elections. The SG maintains that ODM has resorted to upholding its unity with the direction the party would take in the 2027 polls.

“The coming by-election is for the Members of the County Assemblies and MPs. There is no presidential election, so I want to tell the people campaigning for our candidates not to bring up two-term chants in our campaigns,” Sifuna spoke in Mombasa on Saturday, November 1, 2025, during an ODM meeting.
Sifuna has also dismissed President William Ruto’s assertion that the late Raila Odinga was the only politician capable of challenging him in the 2027 elections, insisting the party remains strong and ready to field its own candidate.
