Nyeri leaders to give Ruto their ‘wish list’

By , January 6, 2023

Nyeri leaders are planning to table their list of projects which they want the Government to prioritise, as President William Ruto convenes a Cabinet meeting from today at Mt Kenya Safari Club, Nanyuki.

Led by Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina, the leaders said they want three mega dams to be constructed — two in Kieni constituency and one in Tetu constituency.

Maina said that, although the President and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua are coming for a three-day Cabinet meeting, they will push for a courtesy call where they will table their demands.

Speaking in Nyeri town earlier today, Maina said ‘’those three dams are very important for our county to boost food security, create employment and increase income. The two dams in Kieni have been in the books since time immemorial, while another one (Chania Dam) will be situated in Tetu so that it is able to feed water for irrigation to Tetu, Othaya, some parts of Kieni, Nyeri town and parts of Mukurwe-ini constituency’’.

To ensure economic viability of Kenol-Marua town, Maina said that another proposal will be the extension of the Kenol – Marua dual carriageway to Nyeri town on the way to Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, up to Brookside near Chaka town.

“Another request is to address the poor coffee prices which have led to coffee farmers languishing in poverty. We are calling for guaranteed minimum returns on the products,” he said.

The MP called upon the government to investigate allegations of grabbing of Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) land by influential people in the former regime.
