Nyakera explains why Ruto stands no chance of winning in 2027

By , November 30, 2025

Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) Nairobi Patron Irungu Nyakera has reiterated assertions that President William Ruto has almost no realistic path to re-election in 2027.

In a statement on his X page on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Nyakera pointed to the political shifts in the country as central to the claims.

He pointed out that in the 2022 election, Ruto only narrowly beat Raila in a handful of areas that included the Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions, which stood as his strongest vote baskets, and other regions in Bungoma and Marsabit.

However, due to the shifting alliances, Nyakera claims that Ruto has since lost a huge chunk of his stronghold with the mountain and the ODM-leaning counties that have since slipped out of his grasp.

According to Nyakera, the ODM-leaning counties are Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Nyamira, and Kisii.

Nyakera, therefore, concluded the president’s remaining support bases have since collapsed to basically just the Rift Valley and a few scattered counties, making his reelection chances a pipe dream.

One-term president

His remarks come after former Agriculture CS Mthika Linturi also affirmed that Ruto will go down as a one-term president despite his recent win in the by-elections conducted across the country.

Speaking in Embu on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the politician asserted that the wins will not spare Ruto the destiny of being a one-term president.

“Come 2027, we know whatever we saw will not be repeated here, as no one will have that kind of machinery, power, and money, and I tell you, Ruto will be a one-term president,” he said.

On the coalition’s consensus candidate’s defeat to UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende, Linturi attributed the loss to the existence of some traitors within the team, whom he kept under wraps.

Traitors

He, nonetheless, lauded the performance of the united opposition in the by-elections, adding that the coalition had a lot to be proud of despite the defeat.

“My brothers, do not lose hope; we will leave Mbeere with heads held high. The people who were here as part of our teams have told us we had a few traitors here and there,” he told his colleagues in the United Opposition.
