NLP party invites applications for nominations ahead of November by-elections
By Arnold Ngure, August 11, 2025The National Liberal Party (NLP) has called for applications for nominations to fill the vacant seats announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
In a statement on Sunday, August 10, 2025, NLP leader Augustus Muli urged interested politicians to submit their applications for consideration by September 16, 2025.
“Following Gazette Notice No.11160 dated 8th August, 2025, by the IEBC, declaring vacancies in various electoral areas in Kenya, the National Liberal Party (NLP) hereby invites qualified candidates to submit their applications for nomination as NLP candidates for the forthcoming by-elections scheduled for 27th November, 2025,” the statement reads in part.
Eligibility criteria
Eligible nominees must be NLP members, hold no criminal record, must be registered voters, must be of sound mind, and must satisfy the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution on leadership and integrity.

In a statement published on Saturday, August 9, 2025 the through their X account, IEBC, through Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, said the polls will be conducted to fill vacancies in line with the Constitution and the Elections Act.
“Following the declaration of vacancies by the respective Speakers, the Commission gives notice that the by-elections shall be held on November 27, 2025,” he said.
Elective seats
The first batch, gazetted on Friday, August 8, 2025, covers 16 ward seats: Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu/Kapng’etuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Tembelio (Uasin Gishu), Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo (Nyamira), Lake Zone, and Nanaam (Turkana).
The second batch, to be gazetted on Monday, August 11, 2025, includes the Baringo County Senate seat, six National Assembly constituencies, Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja as well as the Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County.
The IEBC has set September 17, 2025, as the deadline for political parties to submit names of authorised officials and details of primaries. Public officers intending to vie must resign within seven days of the notice.
“We are urging all potential candidates to familiarise themselves with the timelines to avoid disqualification,” Ethekon stated, warning that “The law will be applied firmly and fairly to ensure a credible process.”
