Ngunjiri Wambugu reacts after Gachagua denies sponsoring candidate in Mbeere North
By David Nthua, December 1, 2025Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has launched a scathing attack on his former boss, Rigathi Gachagua.
Through a post on his Facebook page on Sunday November 30,2025, Wambugu stated that the Democracy for Citizens Party Leader is finally being exposed, insisting that his political tricks are becoming clearer by the day.

According to Wambugu, Gachagua denying that he had a candidate in the Mbeere North minipoll only proves what he has been warning Kenyans about.
Gachagua defends himself at Kariobangi North
During a church service at PCEA Kariobangi North, Gachagua urged his supporters not to worry about the Mbeere North outcome.
He stated that his party did not field a candidate in the constituency.
“Na msijali maneno ya Mbeere, DCP haikuwa na candidate Mbeere. DCP ilikuwa na candidate Kariobangi North, tukashinda, Narok town tukashinda, Kisa East tukashinda, Purko tukashindwa kidogo na Magarini. Chama ambaye ni ya mwezi saba imechukua viti tatu out of five,” he said, insisting that his seven-month-old party had performed strongly elsewhere.
Wambugu, however, was not convinced. In his post, he accused Gachagua of playing both sides for political survival.

According to him, Gachagua opted to stay out of the Mbeere North race to avoid the embarrassment of a potential loss.
“This was Gachagua’s plan all along. He knew they would most probably lose, so he opted his new party out. But there was also a chance they might win: so he did those thermos bread runs alone,” Wambugu wrote.
Wambugu incase Karish won
Wambugu went further, saying that if Newton Karish had won, Gachagua would have rushed to Mbeere at night to pick the victory certificate and claimed the win as his own.
“If Karish had won Gachagua would have driven to Mbeere at night to collect the certificate and then carried it to Nairobi today and straight to Kiririmbi tonight; without Karish. Now that he lost, Gachagua ‘didn’t have a candidate’,” Wambugu said.

The remarks come barely 48 hours after the heated Mbeere North by election where UDA’s Leonard Wamuthende won with a narrow margin, beating Newton Karish by just 494 votes.
The tense political contest has triggered new debates within the opposition ranks on candidate coordination and leadership strategy.
For now, Wambugu insists Gachagua’s narrative does not add up, arguing that Kenyans must remain alert as political alignments ahead of 2027 continue to shift rapidly.
