Ngunjiri Wambugu mocks Gachagua after Alice Wahome receives heroic welcome in Murang’a
By David Nthua, September 16, 2025Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has taken a swipe at Democracy for Citizens’ Party boss Rigathi Gachagua.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Wambugu shared several photos of Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome addressing massive gatherings in Murang’a County, right at the heart of Mt Kenya politics, where Gachagua has claimed dominance.
According to Wambugu, Wahome’s reception was not just a routine political tour but a clear signal that the region is not politically locked under Gachagua’s grip.
He noted that Wahome’s show of might was also an indirect message to the former deputy president that his impeachment in 2024 did not drag the Mt Kenya bloc out of government influence.

Wahome’s aura moment
In one of his biting comments, Wambugu mocked Gachagua by quoting Wahome’s rally chant.
“Alice Wahome amesema Aura for Aura! Na akaambia Gachagua wao si rika moja akanyange kubwa kubwa alitoka kwa serikali peke yake,” Wambugu wrote.
The former MP said Wahome, who enjoys President William Ruto’s ear, had firmly positioned herself as a heavyweight in the government, unlike Gachagua, who was hounded out of office and left fighting from outside.
Kitoto cha Simba
Wambugu did not stop there. He reignited the debate over the famous “kitoto cha simba” phrase once used by Gachagua’s allies to describe him as a fearless lion’s cub.

“Meanwhile, wale mliita Gachagua kitoto cha Simba, Mama yake ndiye huyo because clearly if Siri Ni Nambas, Mama Simba had more people and a larger crowd than kitoto cha Simba,” Wambugu said in jest, attaching photos of Wahome’s large crowds.
The remarks immediately sparked heated reactions online, with supporters of both Wahome and Gachagua throwing shade at each other.
For many political watchers, the Murang’a reception of Wahome was a loud statement that Mt Kenya remains fluid and no single politician can claim absolute control.
As 2027 edges closer, Wahome’s entry into the region’s high-stakes political battles appears to have shaken Gachagua’s camp, and Wambugu is making sure the world does not miss it.
Equally, it remains to be seen how the former second-in-command will manage to navigate through the current political landmines that are likely to explode at him.
