Ngilu tells off Ruto’s govt, urges Opposition unity
By Paul Mutua, June 24, 2025Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has attacked President Ruto’s administration of putting the country in limbo, tied to tribulations and anxieties which paint Kenyans at war with themselves, 62 years after independence.
Addressing a congregation at the Africa Inland Church, Kathukini in Kitui Central on Sunday, June 22, 2025, Ngilu said the country plunges deeper into a gloomy moment when the government uses excessive force to silence the dissenting voices who call for justice by standing against oppressive and tyrannical leadership.
She said the increasing distress voices and the unrelenting opposition only join hands to demand liberation and let the country enjoy the fruits of multi-partyism.
The former governor asked the youth and Kenyans at large not to give up, surrender or be discouraged by the rigid governance that was using the rogue police to cause fear and inflict injuries on harmless citizens yearning for justice and freedom.
“Our children are only agitating for their fundamental rights. Even the church that initially stood by this administration has realised their folly that they did not know it was a sheep in wolf’s clothing,” she told a cheering congregation.
Ngilu, who served in both presidents Mwai Kibaki’s and Uhuru Kenyatta’s governments as a cabinet minister, appealed to Kenyans who have not acquired national Identity Cards to do so and register as voters to prepare for a journey to “shame the angels of doom and enemies of democracy”.
“We have to face tough choices in our struggle to redeem this country. We must visit villages to encourage people to register as voters and come out to vote,” she said.
She urged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other members of the opposition alliance not to let their personal ambitions divide them, but remain united and steadfast to deliver government to the people when the next General Elections are called.
She told the coalition to understand that Kenyans are keenly watching their steps and they should never let them down.
