Ngara MCA: Ruto asked us for more time to look into Sakaja’s impeachment
By Joel Masibo, September 4, 2025Ngara Member of County Assembly Chege Mwaura has revealed that President William Ruto requested more time to look into the impeachment possibilities of Nairobi Governor Johson Sakaja.
Speaking on a local radio station on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the County Assemblies Forum General Secretary said the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) allied Members of County Assembly in Nairobi met the Head of State and ODM Leader Raila Odinga on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at State House, Nairobi, to deliberate on Governor Sakaja’s ouster.
”We met the President and former Prime Minister, and their concern was: yes, there’s a problem, but is impeachment really the solution? What options do we have after that? The President suggested that since this is uncharted territory, we give him a reasonable 60 days to address the issues. If nothing changes, then he’ll wash his hands of it.” Mwaura said.
Additionally, the Ngara MCA revealed that Nairobi residents are not feeling well served by the County Governor. He noted that the people of Nairobi also feel let down by the MCAs for failing to push the county boss in matters of accountability and oversight.
”Nairobians were not satisfied and are still not satisfied. They feel let down by the governor, and also by us (MCAs) for not being able to push him (Sakaja) to provide enough oversight and to hold him accountable to deliver.” He added.

Ruto, Raila save Sakaja
On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Raila held a closed-door meeting with Sakaja and ODM-allied MCAs at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF), during which he persuaded them to suspend their push for impeachment. The discussions were aimed at creating space for dialogue and reconciliation between the Governor and the Assembly.
At the same time, UDA Party Leader, President William Ruto, also convened a separate meeting at State House, Nairobi, where he cautioned MCAs allied to the ruling party against pursuing the ouster motion.
Both ODM and UDA MCAs had collected over 70 signatures out of 123 in the House, with a bid to present an impeachment motion at the Nairobi County Assembly. They required at least 82 signatures to table an official motion of impeachment.
