Ndindi Nyoro speaks about his relationship with Ruto and Gachagua

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has revealed the nature of his relationship with both President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Nyoro disclosed that that the last time he spoke to Ruto was five months ago before the impeachment of Gachagua.
“The last discussion I had with the president of the country. The last political discussion, either a chat or a discussion as it were, was before October last year,” Nyoro told the press.
“In terms of the relationship between the president and the former deputy president, the position I hold is that I respect every leader,” Nyoro clarified, further heightening the ambiguities in his political stand.
Neutral position
At the height of the impeachment of Gachagua in October 2024, Nyoro failed twice to approve the motion on his ouster and equally abstained from voting on his impeachment by the National Assembly.

A total of 282 MPs voted in support of his impeachment motion while only 44 voted against it including Nyoro, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Patrick Simiyu (Cherangany), Hassan Yusuf (Kamkunji), John Machua (Kiambu), Antony Njoroge (Kieni), Joseph Gitari (Kirinyaga central), Rose Museo (Makueni) Joshua Mbithi (Masinga), Abraham Kirwa (Mosop), Peter Mbogho (Mwatate), Esther Passaris (Nairobi) and David Njuguna (Ol Kalou).
The other MPs who failed to take part in the impeachment motion were Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), Joshua Kavinda (Kaiti) and Nicholas Ngikolong (Turkana East).
Political realignments
The fallout with Gachagua has led to major political realignments in the Kenya Kwanza especially after ODM leader Raila Odinga entered into a working partnership with the ruling government.
Since the formalization of the cooperation pact with Odinga, the alignments have seen key parliamentary positions previously held by leaders allied to Gachagua change to allies of Odinga and Ruto.
Odinga has equally secured five cabinet positions in the Kenya-Kwanza administration but speculations are rife that he is set to get more positions after some principal secretaries are replaced.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, Gachagua claimed that Ruto retreated to his farm in Narok together with Head of Public Service Felix Koskei over the weekend to plan how to execute an impending reshuffle for PS positions to accommodate Raila men under the broad-based government.
“I had negotiated for 15 PSs seats and I had pleaded with him to retain some of them, but he told me to let all Uhuru people go, we will bring new faces. New PSs were appointed as per his wish, but when the names were announced he had changed the list. He reappointed all Kalenjin PSs who served under Uhuru and when I questioned him, he told me if I want to appoint the PSs I just vie for the Presidency so that I can appoint whoever I want,” Gachagua said.
