Ndia MP George Kariuki accuses Waiguru of political double-dealing
By Bancy Lole, January 11, 2026Ndia MP George Kariuki has hit back at Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, escalating simmering tensions within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ranks in the county.
Speaking on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Kathaka Primary School in Ndia, shortly after casting his vote during the UDA grassroots leadership elections, Kariuki responded to Waiguru’s recent challenge in which she dared him to vie for the Kirinyaga governorship if he truly considers himself the party’s leader in the county.
In a sharply worded address, Kariuki revisited the early days of UDA’s formation, saying some leaders openly opposed the party when it was still struggling to find its footing.
According to the MP, the same leaders only sought refuge in UDA after it grew strong and attractive, positioning themselves for elective opportunities once the party gained national influence.

Mbeere North by-election UDA nominations
Kariuki further claimed that during the Mbeere North by-election nominations, one senior leader from Kirinyaga was allegedly holding talks with rival political parties instead of supporting the UDA candidate. He argued that the intention was to see UDA lose the seat, a move he said would have been used to politically embarrass President William Ruto.
“After we won in Mbeere North, that is when they came back, chest first, claiming to be the bosses of UDA in Kirinyaga,” Kariuki told supporters.
The Ndia legislator warned leaders he accused of divided loyalty to stop dragging Kirinyaga residents into what he termed personal political games. He said any leader contemplating an exit from UDA should do so openly instead of pretending to belong while plotting elsewhere.

In one of his strongest attacks, Kariuki branded the governor a “political octopus”, claiming she has one foot in UDA and another in the Jubilee Party. He accused her of abandoning the party whenever times get tough, only to return when the political weather improves.
Supremacy battle
Kariuki’s remarks were widely interpreted as a direct response to Governor Waiguru’s statements made during a meeting with UDA grassroots leaders at her residence last Friday, January 9, 2026, where she publicly took aim at the Ndia MP.
The exchange underscores growing cracks within UDA’s Kirinyaga leadership, raising fresh questions about unity and loyalty as the party seeks to consolidate its grassroots structures ahead of future political contests.
