Ndegwa Njiru to Ruto: You cannot make Kenya first-world country
By Joel Masibo, October 13, 2025Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has blasted President William Ruto over his recent remarks of having plans in place to make Kenya a first-world country to match the levels of Singapore and other developed countries in Asia and beyond.
Speaking on Sunday while attending a service to commemorate AIC Ziwani Church’s 70 years of faith and dedicated service, Ruto said he has a plan to change the country’s look in a period of 30 years.
”I have a plan to make Kenya a first-world country. Raising Kenya from a third to a first world country will take us 30 years, just like Korea, Singapore and China. By 20255, this nation will be a first-world country.”
Additionally, Ruto said the garbage menace in Nairobi City County will be dealt with accordingly in a bid not only to improve the face of the capital city, but the country at large.
“Nairobi cannot continue to be a city in filth. You see that we have already started cleaning the Nairobi River. And now all estates are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean this city. It cannot continue the way it is,” President Ruto said.
He added that Nairobi roads are still below standard, saying that he has reached out to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and KANU chairman Gideon Moi to make Kenya a first-world country.
Ruto said that his administration will set aside resources to upgrade the Nairobi City County road network as well.
“We must not have mud along our roads. This city will have streetlights so that we make sure that Nairobi is clean, becomes motorable and a city in the light, not in darkness. I have committed that the national government will provide resources,” he added.

However, taking to his X account on Monday, October 13, 2025, while reacting to President William Ruto’s Sunday remarks, Ndegwa Njiru said Ruto has no capacity to realise the dream.
”You have no capacity for setting the pace, let alone the foundation for what you are yapping yapping about. Becoming a first-world country requires an incorruptible, disciplined, and competent leader committed to the rule of law and constitutionalism. NOT YOU, KASONGO.Wewe ni WANTAM,” Njiru said.
Meanwhile, former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has supported President Ruto’s plan to change Kenya’s status quo by declaring interest in the Nairobi governor seat in the 2027 general election, saying he will deal with garbage challenges and incompetence at City Hall.
