Ndegwa Njiru questions possibility of Ruto’s re-election in 2027

By , April 10, 2026

Vocal lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has questioned the possibility of President William Ruto getting a second term.

Njiru says that more than 45 per cent of those early supporters have since moved, which is an indication of increased dissatisfaction in key constituencies.

In a statement on his X handle on Friday, April 10, 2026, Njiru asked how the president is going to get a re-election after apparently losing a huge part of the electorate that saw him to victory in the 2022 general election.

“How will this Ruto guy win the 2027 elections when he has lost over 45% of the total votes that made him president in 2022? ” Njiru stated.

Njiru has urged the head of state to leave what he termed ‘kiburi’ (arrogance) behind and face political reality on the ground. Njiru has further urged the president to acknowledge the realities of ‘WATAM’.

“Ruto, leave the arrogance and start coming to terms with the reality of ‘WATAM’,” Njiru added.

Growing political discontent

The opposition continues to increase the debate on governance, economic strain, and political responsibility.

The opposition believes that unfulfilled campaign promises, high living standards, and poor policy choices have led to a lack of confidence in the current administration.

Njiru’s statement is part of a larger narrative being repeated by the opposition, suggesting that the political environment that benefited Ruto in 2022 may change.

With the 2027 road slowly emerging, the comments of Njiru contribute to the rising voices of the opposition that are calling on the ruling camp to prepare for office exit in 2027. It is yet to be seen whether President William Ruto will change his strategy in reaction to such criticism, but one thing is evident: the next election might not be as easy as it may seem.
