Ndegwa Njiru criticises Ruto’s plan to make Kenya ‘Singapore’
By Joel Masibo, November 24, 2025Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has cast doubt, criticising plans championed by President William Ruto aimed at dragging Kenya from third-world to first-world class status.
Taking to X on Monday, November 24, 2025, the city lawyer pointed out negativities that could deal a blow to President Ruto’s ambitions of giving Kenya a new image if neglected. ”Meanwhile, overtaxation, corruption, abductions, extrajudicial killings, grabbing of our parastals, destruction of our forest cover still remains our declared path towards a Singapore,” he said.
Ndegwa Njiru’s sentiments come at a moment when President William Ruto has blasted those opposed to his game plan of transforming the country to match Malaysia, Singapore, China, and other Asian countries. Ruto has insisted that it is doable, since most of the developed nations in Asia were on the same level as Kenya a few decades ago.

Meanwhile, President Ruto is hosting Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Nairobi. The PM jetted into the country on Sunday night, November 23, 205, to embark on his two-day official visit to Kenya with discussions revolving around infrastructural and agricultural development nationwide.
While he hosted Anwar Ibrahim for dinner at State House, Nairobi on Sunday night, November 23, 205, Ruto added that Ibrahim’s visit to Kenya is an inspiration as the country readies to embark on its transformative journey.

Anwar Ibrahim at State House
”Hosted Malaysia Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim for dinner at State House, Nairobi, where we reflected on his country’s rise from a struggling nation to a first-world status. Malaysia’s journey continues to inspire us and proves that discipline, focus, and bold leadership can transform a nation,” Ruto took to X on Monday Morning, November 24, 2025.
The Head of State said his administration is pumping Ksh5 trillion into infrastructural development and agriculture to open opportunities countrywide while trying to catch up with Asian nations.

”Drawing from this inspiration, we are rolling out a KSh5 trillion plan to invest in our people, boost agriculture through large-scale irrigation, build better roads and energy systems, and open real opportunities across the country. This is a clear and practical path to help Kenya become a first-world economy that lifts our people from poverty and creates wealth for shared prosperity,” William Ruto added.
Commenting on Anwar Ibrahim’s visit, Musalia Mudavadi said Kenya and Malaysia share more than 60 years of close cooperation in trade, education, tourism, and investment, further emphasising the importance of his official visit to Kenya.
